How does the tax calculator work?
The same inputs always give the same result. Progressive brackets, allowances and rates are applied exactly from the official figures that carries a law-as-of date, so a question about an earlier year uses the rates that applied in that year.
- 1Choose the country and yearThe calculator loads the parameter dataset for that jurisdiction and tax year.
- 2Give the factsEnter your income and circumstances. Anything else the calculation needs is asked for.
- 3CalculateBands, allowances and rates are applied in code, in exact decimal arithmetic.
- 4Read the workingThe result shows the inputs, the bands and rates applied, and the official source of each rate.
If a fact the calculation needs is missing, such as residency or filing status, the calculator asks for it rather than assuming a default that might be wrong for you.
Alongside income tax, the calculators cover payroll, sales tax and VAT on a sale, US federal tax, currency conversion, tax ID format checks, cross-border residency and withholding, and depreciation of business assets. Each one says so when a rule is not available for your country or year.
Which countries does it calculate for?
TaxOrch has exact calculators for 42 countries and parameter packs for 42. Depth differs by country, and some countries are covered for research questions but not yet for calculation. The coverage page shows exactly what is calculable where.
Why are figures never produced by the AI model?
A tax figure has to be exact, so every figure is calculated from the official rates, with the working shown.
Rates and thresholds come from official publishers and are stored as values with their source, not as text copied from a web page. Each answer records the rates and sources it used.
Can I compare scenarios?
Yes. Planning scenarios let you run two or more options side by side, such as a different salary and dividend split or a pension contribution. Each scenario shows its bracket breakdown, so the difference between options is traceable to the bands that produced it rather than to a single headline number.
| Item | What you see |

| Band breakdown | How much income falls in each band and the tax on it |
| Allowances and reliefs | Which were applied and the rule that allowed them |
| Sources | The official publication for each rate, for the chosen year |
What should I keep in mind?

- Figures come from exact calculators run against versioned official datasets, and each figure shows its inputs and source so you can check it. It is an estimate for decision support, not professional advice.
Can I calculate tax for a previous year?

What if my country is not supported?
- TaxOrch tells you it cannot calculate for that country and year rather than guessing. The coverage page lists what is supported.
