What can I ask the AI tax assistant?
Ask the way you would ask a colleague. The assistant works out the country, the tax year and the kind of question, then answers it properly: the research library for questions about the law, a calculator for questions about amounts, and your uploaded documents for questions about your own figures.
- "Which forms do I file if I have a salary and some freelance income?"
- "What is the VAT registration rule for a small business selling online?"
- "How much income tax would I pay on this salary for the current tax year?"
- "Is this receipt a deductible business expense?"
- "What changed in this rule since last year, and does it affect me?"
A question about a past year is answered with the law as it stood in that year. The assistant keeps the tax year you asked about attached to every figure and citation, so an answer about 2023 does not quietly use 2026 rules.
How are answers sourced?
TaxOrch keeps a library of official tax law and guidance, collected from the publishing authorities, and kept current. Research answers are built from that library with claim-level citations: each legal statement points to the section of the document that supports it, not to a website in general.
Sources are ranked. Statute outranks guidance, and guidance outranks commentary. When two sources disagree, the answer shows the conflict rather than silently picking one, and a conflict on a high-risk point is sent for human review.
| Part of the answer | Where it comes from | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| A statement of law | A section of an official document | A citation you can open |
| A figure or amount | A exact calculator run against a versioned dataset | The inputs, the rule and the source behind the number |
| Your own numbers | Fields extracted from documents you uploaded | The document and field each value came from |
| Anything uncertain | Nowhere: it is not stated | A specific question or an escalation, with the reason |
The full method is set out in our accuracy methodology.
Why can you trust the numbers?
Every figure is calculated exactly from the official rates for the tax year you choose, and shows its working.
Each answer is recorded with its sources in an audit log. That means an answer can be replayed later and give the same result, which matters when someone asks months afterwards why a figure was what it was.
What happens when it cannot answer?
Every answer follows an answer contract with four outcomes. A verified answer ships with its citations and calculations. Needs facts means the assistant asks the one specific question that would let it answer, such as your residency status or the date a contract started. Unsupported coverage means the country or topic is not covered deeply enough, and it says so. Conflict, human review means the sources disagree on something that matters and a person should decide.
What are the limits?
- TaxOrch provides decision support, not professional tax advice. For notices, disputes or complex structures, talk to a qualified adviser.
- It does not file returns or make payments. Drafts it prepares are marked as not filed.
- Coverage depth differs by country. The coverage page shows what is covered where.
- Your conversations and documents are never used to improve the product without your explicit opt-in.
Who is the assistant for?
Individuals use it to understand their own return and deadlines. Freelancers use it for estimated payments, expenses and income from several clients. Accountants use it to research a position and draft a memo with the sections cited. Try it with a demo account.
Frequently asked questions
Is the AI tax assistant a replacement for an accountant?
- No. It provides decision support, not professional tax advice. It helps you understand the rules and prepare, and it tells you when a question should go to a qualified adviser.
Where do the assistant's answers come from?
- Legal statements cite a specific section of an official document from an official publisher. Figures are calculated exactly from official rates.
What does the assistant do when it is not sure?
- It does not guess. It asks a specific question to get the missing fact, says the topic is not covered, or sends the question for human review, and it tells you the reason.
Is my data used to train the model?
- No. Tenant data is never used to improve the product without your explicit opt-in.
